Explosion at British Sovereign base Dhekelia

Postby Mavikiz » Tue Jun 13, 2017 1:26 pm

Police have confirmed that an explosion occured at the entrance of the British Sovereign Base Area (SBA) in Dhekelia in the early hours of this morning, injuring a police officer.

The incident occured around 3am when a motorcyle approached the entrance of the base and the pillion passenger threw the explosive device
( unconfirmed reports suggest that it was a grenade ), causing the explosion. The police officer suffered minor injuries and his life is not in danger.
A manhunt is underway to find the motorcyclist and the passenger. although police suspect that the motorcycle used in the attack was probably stolen.

Throwing bombs like this was the signature of EOKA in the 1950s.

It is suggested that it's connected to a crack-down by SBA police on bird-trapping....
(I wanted to include a link to a news item, but as BBCode is OFF, I can't....... :( )
