St. George's Day at George's Cafe

Postby carrierbag » Sat Apr 29, 2017 4:23 pm

On a very windy St. George’s Day, Sunday, 23 April, EFRAR 2017 supporting Tulips held their annual George’s Cafe Fun Day in Girne
With a good variety of stalls, including plaques, clothes, wooden crafts, jewellery, EFRAR merchandise, preserves and pickles the EFRAR 2017 committee members and stall holders braved the windy weather to man their stalls to once again raise money for Tulips.
The Abnormals, who have supported EFRAR 2017 supporting Tulips throughout the year, turned out in force, attracting passersby to donate in the collection tins and by posing for photographs with the “stars”.
One member, Annette McCloskey (aka Looby Lou), raised her money by attaching herself to a telegraph pole and asking passersby to donate to free her.
Mary Watson, Chair of EFRAR 2017 supporting Tulips commented: “Once again we are so delighted by the turnout of stallholders and our special thanks goes to The Abnormals who give up their free time to help us raise money for Tulips. They turn out, whatever the weather, and their commitment is remarkable.”
Everyone was able to enjoy music from Brian Delaney, Jamie, the Man in Black, The Abnormals and Robin Lavender and magic and entertainment from Brian Hills. Sadly, Rick Legend from the South, who joins us every year, was not able to attend due to a broken leg.
Mrs Watson said: “We would like to thank all those who manned stalls, provided entertainment or helped in anyway and our sincere thanks go to George and Özlem Ferhatoglu of George’s Cafe for once again hosting this annual event.”

With a generous donation of TL1,000 from George a grand total of TL2,240 was raised.
