ROAD TAX ABOLISHED FROM 1ST MAY

Postby Smoggies » Fri Mar 03, 2017 9:52 am

Received this from the BRS this morning

Dear Member,
With effect from 1st May 2017 the Road Fund License is being abolished.
Petrol will go up by 40 KUROS per liter to compensate the governments loss of revenue.
If you have unused road tax, there will be NO refund however.
If your tax is due before May 1st you must continue paying road tax as before. If you fall into this category, it may be worthwhile to apply for 6 months instead of your normal 12 months.

That won't please a section of the locals who don't have car tax, mot, or come to that have ever taken a driving test, think it's a fairer system so that all the gas guzzling 4x4's etc have to pay up front, only down side of course, is prices will go up in the shops and be blamed on delivery companies

I read elsewhere that "officials" are denying that this is true.

Nothing would surprise me!

Thousands of Greek Cypriot plated cars travel over into the TRNC to fill up every week because it is cheaper fuel than on the Greek side.
This trade will stop as it will after 1st May be cheaper in the south.
What is more many Turkish Cypriot plated cars will be crossing over to the south to fill up there!
So all in all this may backfire tax/revenue wise.
